Rompu, rompu! is the name of the project carried out by artist Blanca Gracia at Matadero Madrid's Centre for Artists in Residence.
“In a present saturated with codes, the phatic function of language has been broken, messages bounce about without reaching anywhere, devoid of meaning and making it difficult to grasp what surrounds us. Drawing on experimentation with theatrical devices, Rompu, rompu! seeks to explore human lack of communication and Voice politics in the panoptic digital era. Using folklore and classical myths as its starting point, this choral work combines the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus, the figure of Caliban or imaginary Esperantist Brigades ready to give meaning to our present”, artist Blanca Gracia explains.
